Annual Report: 2018-2019

Annual Report (2018-19) (NSS)

Nabadwip Vidyasagar College is committed to perform community and social services under the National Service Scheme (NSS). We usually received grants from our affiliated university that is University of Kalyani to conduct all the programs for every financial year. Not only that our college authority also supplements additional grant whenever we desire it. So at the very beginning I must acknowledge the financial help of both our university and college.

All the programs are generally classified into two groups: General Camp and Special Camp. Short duration program usually one or two day program is conducted under the General Camp scheme and a seven day long outstation camp, very close to college location, is organized under the Special Camp scheme. We have not received any grant for special camp this year so we are unable to conduct any special camp for this year.

We have a very dedicated team comprised of 100 volunteers. Fifty percent of the volunteers are taken from the First year students group and the rest is from the Second year students group. Every year we add 50 NSS volunteers from the new student pool. We also take care about the proper gender balance during the formation of the NSS team.

We have conducted a number of general camps during the last financial year that is 2018-2019. Not only that we have also celebrated some important days such as Republic day, Independence day, World AIDs day (1st December) and World Environment Day (5th June).

A very brief overview of the general camps is provided below:

Name of the Program Duration/Nature Number of Participants Remarks
Tree Plantation Program One day / General Camp (15.08.2018.) 50 Program was inaugurated by our President of Governing Body.
10 saplings were planted in different places of our college premises.
We have also distributed pen, pencils, exercise books and sweets to some poor students of our surrounding locality in this occasion.
Cleaning of River Ganga Bank One day / General Camp (12.10.18) 100 We have cleaned the Ganga river bank of Manipur Ghat at Nabadwip.
Students have spread bleaching powder on the surroundings of the ghat.
Nabadwip police station has assisted us in this program.
Pre Republic Day Parade at Meghalaya 12 days camp organized by
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India
(4.11.18.-13.11.18.)
01 Our Second year student Nemai Das has participated in the grand program after the selection at the state level.
We have provided all the materials required for the program to the student from our NSS fund.
His selection for the national level program will certainly inspire our students.
Safe Drive Save Life Program and Marking of Speed Brakers One day / General Camp (24/12/2018) 50 The program is conducted with the help of Nabadwip Police Station.
We have conducted safety awareness program such as advising the bike riders to put on helmet on their head or fastening of seat belt during driving.
We have marked the major speed brakers of the road running from Nabadwip station to Poramatala More with good quality white colour.
Medical Camp One day / General camp (18.01.19) 100 volunteers
400 students
100 teaching and non-teaching staffs
The camp was conducted by a team of Five eminent doctors of different specialization.
Doctors have checked the general health condition of the students, volunteers, teachers and non-teaching staffs and advised accordingly.
It was a great success and we are planning to make this program on a regular basis every year.
Blood Donation Camp One day / General camp (12.03.19) 15 The program was primarily organized by Vidyasagar Birth Anniversary Committee and NCC of our college.
15 volunteers of our NSS have donated blood on that auspicious occasion.

Besides the above mentioned programs the volunteers of NSS always ready to perform any work for the betterment of the college. They usually clean the college premises at a regular interval. They also watered the garden of the college at a regular basis.

Needless to say that our dedicated team has tried their best to perform their value-based social responsibilities to reach the people with the help of NSS. It may be small with respect to the larger society but it can’t be ignored. Hope these small steps will certainly bring sea-change in future. We will continue our program with more enthusiasm in the days to come.
