NCC of Nabadwip Vidyasagar College

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) was established in Nabadwip Vidyasagar College in 1958, and since then it has been continuing uninterrupted with great fame and reputation. The NCC Army wings at our college have always been highly active, energetic, and enthusiastic. Our cadets have consistently made significant contributions to numerous social service endeavors, thereby elevating the college’s reputation. Initially, our college had only one NCC unit of the 54 Bengal Battalion. Ashok Nath Mukherjee served as the Principal in charge of the college during that time. The total number of cadets enrolled was 135. Major M. B. Saha served as the first trained officer in charge of a unit at this college with utmost dedication and integrity. It was primarily under his guidance that Nabadwip Vidyasagar College’s NCC unit gained prestige and recognition. Major M. B. Saha held the position of officer at Nabadwip Vidyasagar College from 1961 to 1975. Due to the profound demand from the students of Nabadwip Vidyasagar College, two additional companies were introduced through the strenuous efforts of Ashok Nath Mukherjee, the then Principal who was really dedicated, energetic, and devoted soldier. As a result, three companies were directly associated with this college. In 1965, Captain J. N. Karmakar received training and served as an NCC Officer from 1965 to 1974. Captain B.K. Ghosh, with exceptional skill and dedication, made the NCC unit at the pinnacle of success, specifically from 1974 to 1981. He was an extremely hardworking and proficient Associate NCC Officer (ANO) who efficiently managed his responsibilities. 2/Lt. N.G. Saha served as an ANO from 1978 to 1998, while 2/Lt.  B. Pal got the opportunity to serve as an ANO from 1985 to 2001. Currently, Lt. (Dr.) Akhil Sarkar and Lt. (Miss) Nimisha Roy are serving as ANOs for the 54 Bengal Battalion and 3 Bengal Girls Battalion respectively with efficiency and proficiency.

As a Tri-Service Organization comprising the Army, Navy, and Air Force, its primary motto is to groom the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. Cadets receive basic military training in small arms and participate in parades. Officers and cadets are not obligated to serve in the military after completing their training. However, based on their performance and merit, cadets are given priority during the selection process. The total strength of the NCC in our college is 430, with 160 in the 3 Bengal Girls Battalion and 270 in the 54 Bengal Battalion. The 54 Bengal Bn NCC (Boys) and 3 Bengal Girls Bn NCC (Battalions) regularly organize camps, adventure activities, and other training programs that offer cadets a unique opportunity to learn and develop new skills. These activities also instill values such as teamwork, camaraderie, and responsibility, allowing the cadets to explore their potential. The NCC unit of Nabadwip Vidyasagar College has produced many distinguished alumni who have made significant contributions to society. Cadets are equipped with a strong sense of civic duty and are encouraged to participate in various social welfare activities, including blood donation camps, awareness drives, and cleanliness campaigns.

All the cadets also take part in flag hoisting ceremonies on Independence Day, Republic Day, and 23rd January at the college premises, where they proudly perform parades to honor the national flag and the glory of our nation. Cadets also participate in prestigious camps like RDC (Republic Day Camp), NIC (National Integration Camp), TSC (Thal Sainik Camp), and CATC every year. The Republic Day Camp (RDC) is a prestigious event organized by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) of India. It provides an opportunity for cadets from different NCC units across the country to come together and exhibit their skills, discipline, and dedication. The RDC parade is a significant highlight of the camp, where selected cadets march and perform in front of esteemed dignitaries and spectators. NCC students from various colleges and universities actively participate in RDC parades. The cadets actively accomplished their drill movements, including march-past, salutes, formations, and other display exercises. Almost every year, the NCC cadets of Nabadwip Vidyasagar College participate in this dignified event in Delhi with great enthusiasm and competence, and it augments the reputation of the college.

Today, the NCC unit at the Nabadwip Vidtyasagar College has become an integral part of the institution, and its contributions towards the overall development of the students are widely acknowledged.
